How We Got Started?

Britt Marie (Marie) grew up around horses. Her father boarded his best friends horse at their house. Marie loved feeding M & M's to the horse, and always ran to the barn and hid under the horse when she got in trouble. "Pander" the horse, would always head butt, bite, and try to kick at her mom and dad when they try to get after her. She grew extremely close to Pander! On the day she was brought home from the hospital, her dad introduced her to the horse, and since then.... Marie has had her sights set on horses, and nothing but horses. Pander died when Marie was at the age of 5. And she had to move in with her greatgrandma when her mom took over taking care of Haiyley.

Marie begged for horses, but there was no way for her to have a horse. They knew nobody who had hay for sale for winter, they had no land, and they had no knowledge of caring for a horse. Marie, determined to change that, galloped around neighing like a horse. When Marie got old enough, she took a clase that taught her about horses. From how to ride a horse, how to groom a horse, breeds of horses, parts of a horse, their history, how to care for them, etc. At the age of 13, her uncle bought her a horse. $800.00 later she had a horse. His name was Blaze. Her uncle agreed to board the horse at his house because she didn't have any land.

She sent money to her uncle for vaccinations, wormings, farrier expenses, grain, and for some hay. She also helped in the hay field throughout that summer, and split wood for them to heat with throughout the winter. Marie saved every penny she had for months. She was finally able to buy a riding helmet, 3 halters, 2 leads, a lunge, a mane and tIail comb, mane and tail shampoo and conditioner, curry ccomb, a finishing brush, sponges, and some towels and washclothes. And, she went to her uncles house to meet her horse. Yeah. She got the horse without ever seeing the horse first! Anyways, she got to ride the horse, and she groomed him all up. She has to work with the horse a good bit. When she first met him, he was scared of his own shadow, bottles, loud noises, wasn't rideable, and he wouldn't even walk up to her. He ran from everybody. She could've chose to get the jet black horse with the white star, of the solid brown horse who greeted her at the gates.. But she choose the smaller sized, older shyer horse in the very far back.

She spent 2 weeks straight training the horse. She would inch herself closer to the horse bribbing him with carrots, and he came to her that very first day. Then, he never left her side. He followed behind her like a little lost puppy. She got him halter broke, he started walking on a lead for her, but was still teriffied of loud noises, and objects in her hands. By the end of the summer, she has him trained for riding. Her and her nephew spent some time riding him, before she had to say good-bye for the summer. A few months later, Marie started with commercial modeling, dancing for the year,  singing and acting. She was regularly out of state and she couldn't get to see him for a long time.

She begged her other Uncle, David, for her to let her use his field to put her horse in. A few chocolate peanutbutter cakes later, her uncle gave in and let her. Then, she saved and saved every penny she made from working mucking stalls at an equine boarding and trainging facility, and she bought fencing. She worked on the fence and worked, and finally got it all together. She bought bags after bags of feed, and jugs of treats! She called up her uncle and told him that she was going to get the summer of 2014.

The horse ended up falling through the trailor.... A little around $1,700.00 later in vet bills and medical supplies at Tractor Supply, and thousands of tears later... Difficult struggles to put antibitotic ointment on the horses back legs, trying to fool the horse to put antibiotics and pain meds in his feed, bandage changes, and lots of vet visits, and early mornings.. The horse had to be put down.. Marie made the difficult decision to have him put down. His odds weren't in his favor. He only had a 25% chance at surviving, and if he did he would have to have pain meds, and joint supplements, and a special shoe, and he would always walk with a limp. The vet also gauranteed about a 100% chance of the horse having arthoritis. Marie felt that it wasn't the right thing to do by keeping him alive. "It won't be a life for a horse..." Marie said.. So.. She made the very difficult decision to put the horse down.

Marie wanted to to be a zookeeper. She had big dreams of owning her own zoo. But after doctoring and trying to nurse a horse back to health, Marie had a change of plans. She has now decided to devote every second of her life to saving horses! She is now a volunteer at a equine rescue, boarding, and training facility. She mucks their stalls, and does massage therapy on them to help calm them down. She spends extra time after her shifts grooming the horses and giving him hugs and kisses!

Now... Everything Marie does.. Will be devoted to Horses!
